Letter of interest:

I am a German muralist, living in San Francisco. As an artist and educator for over 10 years, I use murals to transform ordinary spaces into visual learning environments. I am deeply committed to develop art, that enables people to reflect upon their own lives and on the places they are living in. I’m proud of my large-scale murals in Germany, the US and Latin America. I have extensive experience with private and public commissions, including public libraries, hospitals and schools.

Most murals are preserving the past, while I propose to continue the history of Vallejo. Prior to the project, I would visit Vallejo to develop the particular visual vocabulary to describe the town. I also would like to capture private moments in the community, that define the identity and culture of Vallejo in addition to the purely physical appearance. The Large Mural would be a resource of empowerment, showing my artistic visions of Vallejo’s future. To engage the community, I would like that people contribute photos of themselves that take action in the city and make it even more fabulous. I would collage the self-portraits into the mural, resulting in a colorful community of Vallejo. For the Youth Mural, I could also imagine to continue my butterfly series. Vallejo transformed from a beautiful, little town into a cultural diverse city. I would like to reflect that through the migration of Monarch Butterflies. In the wings, the youth would paint their future vision for Vallejo.

Through my work I am able to direct the viewers attention to the qualities of Vallejo and educate about its history. I hope that through my interpretation others are moved to explore the city with a fresh perspective. I want to convey to others my emotional response, as a visual expression, to my personal experience there.

You can find more examples of my artwork on this website: www.creationsofentropy.com
More information about my community murals are available on CULTIVATIVE’s website: www.cultivative.org

One of my strengths is my ability to collaborate with city planners and commissioners. I appreciate the input this process allows into my work and value the give and take of the collaborative experience. Should I be selected to complete a mural in Vallejo, I look forward to the interactions with the various committees.

Thank you very much for your consideration!

ENTROPY, aka Bianca Nandzik – www.creationsofentropy.com

Inspired by the murals of Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros and José Clemente Orozco, as well as the Chicano Mural Movement, I started creating murals in public spaces. My PhD studies took me to San Francisco, where the mural tradition is passed down from generation to generation. To the Vallejo Community Arts Foundation,
I am writing this Letter of Interest to express my commitment to working with community arts organizations and creating inspiring work for the citizens of Vallejo. Since moving to the Bay Area in 1987 I began working on community art programs in the Mission District and in 1990 moved to Oakland to attend CCA. Since then, I have been a working muralist and artist studying decorative arts and mural painting.
I have applied for and worked on Public Art Projects in Oakland and San Francisco as well as many private and commercial projects throughout the Bay Area. I have worked with Youth Art programs k-12 in OUSD doing art and mural projects as well as youth organizations such as Girls Inc., Youth Spirit and Youth Uprising. I most recently get my teaching credential at CSUEB in teaching art and am currently employed as a Middle and High School Art Teacher.
I enjoy working with youth and community members to create work that is lasting and meaningful

Erin Bakke
Project Coordinator
Vallejo Community Arts Foundation
Vallejo, CA

My name is Dan Fontes. I’ve been a mural artist in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 35 years. My experience in all aspects of public art and mural painting is quite comprehensive. As you can see from my resume I have directed projects, overseen crews of apprentice mural painters on many interior and exterior works and have employed a wide range of materials, surfaces, budgets and scales large and small.

Please consider this letter as an application for both projects. I suggest a historically themed mural, perhaps of maritime subject or waterfront history for the large wall on Sacramento and Georgia Streets, which I have inspected in person. As I have worked with many young people over the years from a wide range of backgrounds and circumstances it would be fantastic to get a chance to work with local youth as well. I usually work from historic photographs and incorporate local character and flavor into my art.

If you have any further questions I’d be happy to talk more as to how to tailor this art to fit the needs of the City.

Sincerely yours,

Dan Fontes
Public Artist/Muralist

Having the opportunity to beautify the city of vallejo would be a dream come true for me. At a time when Vallejo is truly on the path of recovery/regeneration allowing artists to play a crucial role is so exciting as we know art is the one area that bridges gaps of seperation between all peoples.
I myself am in a time of recovery & regeneration daily filling my cup with positivity, passion, pure thoughts, & actions. Expression on to a surface a canvas a wall a song or a poem is my healing medicine, and in the same way this medicine heals my person into a whole balanced being, The same medicine can help heal the community as a whole.
Being in this moment in time of uncertainty I can only intend a bright, rich future ahead and having the strength of a community filled with Creators of all types, and a youth that is in need of projects like this we can as a whole and individually affect so much change for good, and that is the most exciting opportunity i could ever ask for. Thank you for the consideration and i hope to work with more of you in the bright future we all have to look forward to.

Letter of interest:

To whom it may concern,

My name is Daniel “Cully” Pratt and I am beyond excited about this opportunity or potential mural opportunities in downtown Vallejo California.

I currently work as Patrol Deputy with the Solano County Sheriff’s Office. I work approximately 3-4, 12 hour days per week, usually Weds-Sat. This great schedule allows me a chance to serve my community and provides me ample time and opportunity to work on my true passion, which is creating art!

I am the proud creator of Cully’s Artistic Creations; which is a family owned and operated freelance artwork service.

I specialized in several artistic categories. Recently, I have been hosting local “Sip & Paint” acrylic painting classes and events. Prior to this, I specialized in primarily wall murals for businesses and residences, additionally I have created (oil and charcoal) portraits and paintings of children, animals and scenery.

For details please refer to the following: (www.cullysartisticcreations.com) & (Cully’s Artistic Creations) on Facebook.

Over the past 25 years, I have completed more than 15 large and small-scale wall murals for my clients, some in homes and some in businesses. Each of these projects has been a building block toward my ultimate goal of creating a self-sustaining referral-based adventure as a professional artist.

I feel strongly that a wall mural can not only transform any area, from drab and dull to the talk of the town; but it can bring communities and their members closer together.

Throughout the years, I’ve completed countless drawings and paintings for friends and family members. I am ready for the next step of my artistic career.

I have been a Solano County resident for the past 16 years. During this time, I served as a US Army Recruiter (Vallejo Recruiting Station) 2000-2003. After leavingbthe US Army, I have been working as a law enforcement officer/deputy 2003-2016.

I have collaborated, met and served countless members of our community through both law enforcement and through my artistic connections I have made through art.

I am extremely interested in this incredible opportunity to create a large scale mural in downtown Vallejo, California. I feel confident that I not only am able and willing to complete a beautiful work of art in your city; but work successfully with others who are working together to collaborate on this project.

Thank you for your consideration.

Respectfully submitted,

Daniel “Cully” Pratt

Erin Bakke, project coordinator
Vallejo Community Arts Foundation

VCAF Request for Qualifications for Mural Artists

To Erin,

Working with the community is the primary reason I create public artwork. I have experience designing work specifically for community participation as well as large scale works like the building on the corner of Georgia and Sacramento.

Whether working alone or with the whole neighborhood I believe that a community changes depending on the presence of art. While designing work, I try to envision being in the space and living with the same image on a daily basis. I ask, How can this work interact with the activities already present? Can it help strangers communicate in a friendly way? Will it attract photographers and deter taggers? Will it still be interesting five years from now?

Thank you for your consideration,

Ellen Picken

To whom it may concern,

In response to the call of the City of Vallejo under the auspices of Erin Bakke, Coordinator of the Vallejo Art and Architecture, I hereby submit my formal intent to join in this worthwhile endeavor as an experienced artist to participate in the mural projects design to promote the historical and geographical theme of Vallejo community.
It is with great honor and pleasure to be a part of this wonderful undertaking as I wanted to express my aesthetic abilities and natural talents in the creative arts thru various media. Most of my life had found the way in my artistic works in the bay area and in the Philippines for the last two years doing public and private commissioning of visual designs.
I have enclosed some pictures which highlights some previous works I created and collaborated in the past. I wanted to make special mention the biggest project that I ever worked was with the City of San Mateo downtown beautification project three years ago which had given me a big boost in my career.
I also attached my resume which provides more details of my educational background and work experience. I shall be glad to discuss further how I could help create a more beautiful and united City of Vallejo can be realized towards those goals being set for these projects.

Very truly yours,

Letter of interest:

Dear Ms Bakke,
It is with great interest that I submit the following Letter of Interest to be considered for the Artist Project with Vallejo Community Arts Foundation. After reviewing the enclosed information, I feel confident that you will agree that my experience and professionalism are precisely what companies look for in a partnering organization.
In the corresponding Resume, you will see not only my extensive experience as an Artist, but also an outline of my vast experience in a Management/Directors role for companies such as Xerox Corporation and American Reporgraphics Corp. Managing very large projects from conception to completion, at a major scale, is what I have done for over 28 years.
This includes, but is not limited to managing projects within set budgets, service level agreements, contract negotiations, client satisfaction & retention, and project management.
As an Artist, my greatest achievement is having been selected as one of 109 National Artists, from a pool of 4,370 to be recognized and published in the June/July 2009 issue of Communication Arts Magazine. Additionally, I have been recognized by several television and radio stations, and have been featured several times in local newspaper articles. On the flip-side, as an Artist, my greatest reward is having had the opportunity to give-back to local communities through the sales of Simply Artistic’s products and services.
I feel very confident that I
can exceed expectations given the opportunity to work with you. I have a very high interest in doing so, as to further build upon my existing resume. Moreover, I have a high level of interest simply for the opportunity to collaborate with an organization focusing on youth projects. I believe my talents and experience would be ideal for this project.
In closing, I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and your staff to discuss how my knowledge, professionalism and experience can be key to the success of Vallejo Community Arts Foundation’s project. Thank you very much for your time and consideration, and I do look forward to the possibility of working with you on this project.
